Solve a problem for your customers

The customer must be front and centre of everything your company does.

To be successful you must clearly understand who your core customer is, what they like/dislike and position your company's brand, products and services in a way that:

1. Gets noticed

2. Appeals directly to your target market

However if you want to be truly successful, you need to understand what major problem or pain point you can solve for your customers.

Continue to solve their problems and your will create long-term loyal customers for your business.

Tips on  solving customer problems:

  • Understand your target market: who they are, what they do, what problems keep them awake at night

  • Define the customer problem you are going to solve

  • Work out a solution to their problem

  • Position your company's brand or service as the solution they need to solve their problem

  • Keep solving your customer's problems and you will stay ahead of your competitors and have long-term, loyal clients who love working with you.

Stand out from the crowd

So many companies look like their competitors. They have similar branding, products and services.

In fact as they all sell the same products, through the same channels and treat their customers the same; the only way for them to differentiate is on 'price'.

Most retailers fall into this category, how often do you hear retailers scream: "Find a cheaper price and we will beat it".

We all know selling on price is a race to the bottom - the person with the deepest pockets survives the longest.

To win in the long game, you need to differentiate your brand, the product and services you deliver and most importantly personalise the experience that your customers receive.

Do this and price becomes less important in the customers purchase decision hierarchy as  you have given them more reasons than just 'price' to prefer shopping with you.

Tips for standing out from the crowd:

  • Understand your competitors (it is a great idea to plot your major competitors brand names, logos, taglines and positioning statements on one board; so it is easy to compare with your own)

  • Understand your market environment (is it growing/shrinking, impacted by new technology, etc).

  • Understand your target audience's needs, wants, and problems

  • Then brainstorm as many ways as possible you can standout from the pack

  • Package up the best thinking and ideas and bring these to life (your business will now be in a lot more unique and ownable space)

  • Finally to really differentiate your business; bring these ideas to life by engaging your customers with a relevant and personalised customer experience.
