Be Decisive

So many supposid leaders in business and too scared to make the 'wrong' decision; so instead make no decision. They hide behind statements like 'Lets do more 'market research'.

This continued indecisiveness puts the whole team in a state of flux and creates inefficiency, as the team can not move forward in any direction as no decisive decision has been made.

As Theodore Roosevelt said "In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing".

Tips on being decisive:

  • Understand the situation

  • Trust your instinct and experience

  • Trust your team

  • Make a decision

  • Clearly communicate the decision to your team

  • Direct and empower your team so they can move forward and achieve the goal.

Be Inspiring

A  great leader challenges everyone in the organisation to achieve at a higher level.

To do this they must set an inspiring challenge to their organisation.

John F Kennedy inspired a nation to achieve the nearly impossible with his famous speech stating:

We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

I believe, this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.”

This challenge is so much more inspiring and motivating than saying "We will be the leaders in space travel, with the best technology...".

Tips for being inspiring:

  • Clearly define the goal you wish to achieve

  • Understand your target audience (what excites and motivates them, what will make them jump out of bed in the morning)

  • Frame this goal in a way that will inspire your team to greatness.
